Many people might not think they’re leaders - until they have children. Parents then discover leadership competencies they may not have known they had in order to protect, guide and love their children. Most parents want to do their best as they influence their children.

Creative Parenting Skills provides skills for effectively teaching children appropriate behavior and bolstering their self-esteem. Sessions are interactive and fun and participants practice skills before trying them out in their real world situations.

Here Are the Topics Included in the Creative Parenting Skills Course:

Setting Rules that Work

If unwanted behavior in a child continues, we may be unwittingly encouraging that behavior. We provide concrete steps to encourage a child’s appropriate behavior and eliminate unwanted behavior.

Being Positive

Bolstering self-esteem is part of a parent’s role. But is there an effective and ineffective way to do it? We will explore approaches to make sure your child feels good about himself in a healthy way.

The Role of Consistency in a Child’s Life

What happens when we’re inconsistent as parents? Is it sometimes positive and sometimes not?

When is Behavior Irrelevant?

How can any behavior from your children be irrelevant? What do we mean by irrelevant behavior and what are the best skills to address it?

What’s the Difference in Consequences and Punishment?

There’s a big difference and you’ll learn about it in Creative Parenting Skills. When is punishment appropriate and effective and when does a consequence work better?

Modeling Behavior

What is the influence a parent has as a role-model for her child? Does “Do as I say ,not as I do” work?

Modify the Environment to Maximize Learning

How do we change a child’s surroundings to maximize cooperation and learning?
